How to Keep Your Car Clean in Winter

Vehicle driving through a car wash

Thanks to mud, slush, and road salt, winter is a challenging time of year to keep your car clean. But there are plenty of easy solutions that will protect your car’s body and improve driving safety and visibility.

Wash Frequently

During the winter, it’s good to wash your car every couple of weeks, but at least do it once a month to wash off any built-up grime on the exterior, and focus on the undercarriage. It’s also a good idea to clean out the interior of any debris that’s been tracked in. And remember to wash the insides of the windows to boost visibility.

Wax

The best way to protect your car from the weather is to give it a nice protective coat of wax after you wash it. You can have the wax done professionally or do it yourself at home for cheap — either way, you’ll be doing your car a huge favor.

Rubber mats

If you don’t already have rubber floormats, invest in some. Rather than stepping on carpet with your wet, dirty shoes and letting the grime soak in, rubber floor mats protect the carpet, and they’re easy to remove and clean. It will help your vehicle smell fresher and eliminate the need for you to spend extra time scrubbing the carpet. For more winter maintenance tips, call us here at LaSorsa Chevy Buick. Winterize Your Car In a Few Simple Steps

Winterize Your Car - LaSorsa Chevrolet Buick in Bronx, New York

Here in New York, winter can arrive suddenly without much warning. That is why it is so important to winterize your car. Follow these simple steps below to get your car ready for the cold and snow.

Fluids

Your vehicle’s fluids are what keeps everything running smoothly. Make sure all fluids are clean and at the proper level. Pay particular attention to your coolant, oil, and washer fluid.

Tires

Those four pieces of rubber that keep you in contact with the road can quickly become useless if they are worn too thin or damaged. Check your tread depth and you can even switch to winter tires, which do a better job of cutting through snow and staying soft when temperatures drop.

Battery

Any starting troubles can become exacerbated in the winter. Check your car’s battery, cables, and terminals.

Emergency Kit

In case you do get stuck on the side of the road, you want to be prepared. Pack an emergency kit with items like a blanket, extra gloves, a small shovel, flashlight, high-energy snacks, water, and other emergency items.
